Notting Hill Ladbroke Grove

Featured Story
Ladbroke Grove of Notting Hill, London.
Ladbroke Grove is a neighborhood at the core of Notting Hill

West London is home to 1.6 million people, and has a contemporary reputation as a fashionable area. Ladbroke Grove is in The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

Ladbroke Grove is a road in the northern part of Notting Hill, stretching up to Kensal Green. It is the main road on the route of the annual Notting Hill Carnival in August. The street is named after James Weller Ladbroke of the mid 1800s, who developed the Ladbroke Estate which had previously been a largely rural area on the western edge of London.

Ladbroke Grove tube station is the area’s main transport, called Notting Hill from its opening in 1864 until 1919. The name was changed to avoid confusion with the new Notting Hill Gate station. Ladbroke Grove is the nearest tube station to Portobello Road Market.

Ladbroke Grove has been part of the alternative and underground music scene over the decades with bands such as The Clash, Hawkwind, The Deviants and Pink Fairies. The Roughler magazine emerged in the 1980s, chronicling the antics of the area’s Bohemian residents, including the legendary Portobello Pantos. Ladbroke Grove has also been featured in a number of songs, including Van Morrison's 1968 song "Slim Slow Slider.”
